Debby Yu, a dynamic entrepreneur and loving mother of two, co-leads STUDIO DAM, a versatile branding consultancy and design studio, and EVERCASA, a home decor brand, alongside her husband Matthijs. Together, they have nurtured STUDIO DAM into a multidisciplinary design firm that excels in creating bespoke brand strategies, encompassing product design, spatial projects, and logo designs.
Beyond their thriving professional pursuits, Debby and Matthijs also find profound joy in their roles as parents to Ray and Mika, adding an extra layer of love and completeness to their family and home.
Tell us about yourself
I’m Debby Yu, passionate Co-Founder of STUDIO DAM and Evercasa, a proud mama of 2 kids and curious learner of entrepreneurship.
How would you describe the experience of running your business with your husband?
Haha, we're a well-oiled machine!
Matthijs and I not only run both of our businesses together but also have the joy of raising two cute-but-cheeky little girls. We practically spend 24/7 together, and it's the secret to making it all work. Without that synergy, it would be dam tough! We've been working side by side for more than a decade now. He is the most patient and respectful person I know. We just seem to understand each other without needing to explain too much about our thoughts or ideas. We give each other the space we need and challenge each other to grow every single day.
He's my best partner-in-crime, and I can't imagine doing life without him.
How does each family member contribute to the success of your businesses?
My parents have played a pivotal role in shaping who I am today as business owners themselves. They instilled in me the value of humility - 先做人，才做事 (be a good person before you focus on your work). They were my unwavering source of confidence when it felt like no one else believed in me. Their support knows no bounds; they've always been there to lend a helping hand, especially with babysitting the kids during work emergencies.
My sister is my biggest cheerleader, and I'm equally proud of her accomplishments.
As for my kids, they are my greatest inspiration and the driving force behind all that I do.
My other family members, who are also entrepreneurs, understand the challenges of this journey, and we readily come to each other's aid whenever needed.
Last but not least, my in-laws are incredibly understanding and kind, making me feel truly blessed to have them in my life.
What does family mean to you?
It’s what we fiercely protect and love. Support and lift each other up no matter rain or shine.
What is your mantra in life?
Trust your gut. No regrets, leave nothing on the table.
If you were to describe YeoMama Batik to a friend, what would you say?
Contagiously fun-loving batik that EVERYONE looks good in, and I must say the founder is one of the hardest working people I know.
